The smart grid faces a variety of converging challenges that set its future growth apart from past rapid infrastructure developments such as the telecom and information technology industries. In conjunction with the IEEE Technology Time Machine conference in Hong Kong, the following white paper takes a realistic look at the smart grid implementation time-line over the next few decades and beyond.
Co-authored by S&C’s Vice President of Power Systems Services Wanda Reder and NIST National Coordinator for Smart Grid Interoperability George Arnold, the paper not only discusses upcoming challenges, but possible solutions to realizing the world’s need for an adaptive, efficient, and flexible electric power delivery system.
