Incremental Encoder Signals

March 24, 2016 By

160412-PittmanIncremental encoders are used on motors and equipment as feedback devices to determine position and direction of machinery. Motor controllers can also use position information from the encoder to commutate the motor and calculate velocity for speed control. The incremental encoder is a critical component that provides important data necessary for the precise control of a variety of motion systems. This paper describes the output of a typical incremental encoder.
