The i.MX RT series defines a unique class of devices known as crossover microcontrollers. A crossover microcontroller (MCU) blends the design simplicity of a traditional microcontroller with the performance of an applications processor. The foundation of an i.MX RT crossover device is a “microcontroller class” CPU core, such as an Arm® Cortex®-M7 or Cortex-M33, running at speeds of up to 1GHz coupled to high-speed internal memory. Users benefit from being able to run bare-metal or with a Real-Time Operating System (RTOS) at accelerated speeds.
